About this place
Sitting near the residential edges of Takashimadaira, Fukusuke is an easygoing neighbourhood izakaya for an unpretentious drop-in. Its doors open daily from 15:00, making it especially handy for settling in with a cold beer and small sharing plates before the evening rush sets in.
The core of the menu is an extensive variety of kushiage, the breaded and deep-fried skewers that you can order piece by piece straight from the fryer. Meat options range from pork belly and pork tenderloin to chicken thigh and gizzard, supplemented by seafood skewers like prawn, whiting, and scallop. Vegetable skewers are equally varied, featuring lotus root, asparagus, onion, and crowd favourites such as cabbage or pickled red ginger that deliver a crisp, lively bite.
Small side dishes to keep on the table while waiting for skewers are just as well represented. Stalwarts like simmered beef offal (motsu nikomi) and beef tendon tofu join humble potato salad and smoked daikon with cheese as easy accompaniments for drinks. The kitchen also turns out wok and pan dishes such as mentaiko-filled rolled omelette, offal stir-fried with cabbage and egg, and squid chijimi pancakes, giving diners plenty to build a leisurely evening around.
When you want something more substantial, there are filling options like fragrant signature garlic fried rice, takana mustard green fried rice, and yakisoba noodles prepared in your choice of classic brown sauce, salt, or ketchup-based Neapolitan style. The dining space accommodates solo patrons comfortably at counter-style spots alongside standard tables, and digital payment via PayPay is accepted, fitting everything from a quick stop on the way home from work to relaxed weekend gatherings.
